Florida's rules for aesthetic nursing are spread across the Nurse Practice Act, physician office-supervision statutes and recent laws on laser hair removal and IV vitamin therapy. Your Florida manual organizes them into policies your medical director can approve.
Who Regulates Aesthetic Practice in Florida
- Florida Board of Nursing
- Florida Board of Medicine
- Florida Statute § 381.0098 (Biomedical Waste)
- Federal OSHA (Bloodborne Pathogens)
Key Florida Rules Your Manual Addresses
Office Supervision for APRNs and PAs
Florida Statute § 458.348 addresses physician supervision of APRNs and PAs in offices away from the physician's primary practice location, including special requirements for offices that mainly provide dermatologic or skin-care services (Florida Statute § 458.348).
Laser Hair Removal Offices
2024 legislation exempts certain offices from the usual supervision requirements when nonablative laser hair removal by an APRN or PA is the only service provided. The office must still be supervised by a physician (Florida SB 1328, 2024).
IV Therapy
Florida Administrative Code Rule 64B9-12.004 sets out when IV-certified LPNs may give limited forms of IV therapy under the direction of an RN or other qualified practitioner (Rule 64B9-12.004). A 2023 legislative analysis describes how elective IV vitamin treatment is currently handled (Florida Senate, HB 725 Analysis).
RN Injectables: Verify Before You Offer
Florida has no single, procedure-specific Board of Nursing rule covering RN Botox, fillers, Kybella, PRP, sclerotherapy or PDO threads. Your manual documents delegation and supervision conservatively and flags these items for confirmation with the Florida Board of Nursing.
